The Australian Government is changing how funding is allocated for some NDIS supports from 1 October 2026. A new plan variation pathway has been created for people with high support needs who need disability support 24 hours a day.
As part of the 2026–27 Budget, the Australian Government announced it would reset funding for two types of NDIS supports:
The changes will affect all people who have funding for either of these supports in their NDIS plan.
The changes will be introduced gradually over 12 months from 1 October 2026. They will apply when a person’s plan is created, reassessed or renewed.
A new plan variation pathway has been created for people with high support needs who need disability support 24 hours a day.
The pathway is designed to make sure these people continue to have enough funding to safely meet their support needs. It recognises that the level and type of support a person needs may vary across different environments and circumstances.
For more detail about what the funding reset means and how it will be introduced, read the Funding changes for NDIS supports guide.
We have established a dedicated team, led by Carolyn and Chloe, to support people and families with questions about the reforms, funding changes and possible next steps. The team can help you understand your options, identify what evidence may be required and connect you with the appropriate supports.
Examples of evidence that may be requested include allied health assessments, Behaviour Support Plans, Functional Capacity Assessments, incident reports, and reports that demonstrate a person’s support needs and any risks if supports are reduced.
