On Wednesday 8 October, we held an online information session for people we support, families and carers. The session explained the recently introduced NDIS reforms and what they may mean for people who receive Community and Social Participation supports.
The information shared was based on current legislation and the latest guidance available from the NDIA.
New legislation came into effect on 1 October 2026. It includes a 50 per cent reduction to Community and Social Participation funding.
The changes are expected to be introduced gradually over the next 12 months. The reduction applies only to Community and Social Participation funding, not to a person’s entire NDIS plan.
The legislation includes protections for some people with high and complex support needs. People who meet the eligibility criteria may be able to apply for a variation to the funding reduction.
The criteria looks at funding levels and support arrangements. Meeting the criteria does not automatically restore funding. It gives people access to a variation process where their circumstances can be considered.
If the NDIA tells you that your plan is affected, please contact us as soon as possible. Time limits apply to variation requests, so contacting us early gives us more time to provide the right information and support.

We continue to advocate for people with disability by working directly with the NDIA and sector partners. Our leaders meet regularly with senior NDIA representatives to share feedback about the impact of the reforms and raise concerns affecting people, families and providers.
We are committed to making sure the voices of people we support are heard. We will continue to raise issues that may affect people’s health, wellbeing and quality of life.
We know these changes may feel overwhelming, and some questions are still being worked through across the sector. We will continue to share updates, fact sheets and resources to help people understand the reforms and any changes to their supports.
We will also hold more information sessions for people who could not attend.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact our NDIS Reforms Support Team. We are here to work alongside you through these changes.
