Frequently asked questions about Breaking Ground

Breaking Ground is a creative, social craft group for adults who want space to make art, connect with friends and enjoy meaningful days together. We mix creativity, wellbeing, joy, dance breaks, outdoor moments and a gentle pace that meets everyone where they’re at. Every person is a maker, collaborator and a valued part of our community.
  • Person‑led creativity: Projects, themes and term ideas come directly from the group through brainstorming sessions.
  • Social connection first: Each day begins with welcoming conversation games and catch‑ups to help everyone settle in and feel connected.
  • Gentle, empowering pace: Some days we craft for hours, other days we need sunshine, friends and laughter more than materials.
  • Creativity through trial and error: We explore methods together, adapting each activity so everyone can participate in their own way and at their preferred pace.
  • Joyful environment: Dance parties, garden walks, music, silliness and celebration in different forms are woven through our routine.

Every session flows from connection → creativity → choice → wind‑down, with flexibility to follow the group’s energy and wellbeing on the day. A typical day at Breaking Ground begins with warm conversation games and social catch‑ups that help everyone settle in and reconnect. The middle of the day is where our creativity blooms. We choose one or two projects as a group and explore them at our own pace. Projects range from painting, nature‑based crafting, sewing, paper‑making and mosaics to  seasonal activities.

Yes. Many people use NDIS funding to take part in our day programs. If you’re unsure about your funding, call 1300 696 352 or email Ally Midwood and we’ll walk you through it.

Examples of past projects include:

  • Mosaic pieces and nature‑inspired crafts.
  • Simple sewing and textile activities.
  • Painting, mixed‑media, and playful experiments.
  • Handmade paper and small personalised gifts.
  • Seasonal creations and celebration‑themed days.

Each term looks different, shaped by the group’s imagination.

Breaking Ground runs every Tuesday throughout the year. We close on public holidays and take a short break after Christmas.
