New NDIS Minister announced
January 17, 2025

Social Services Minister Amanda Rishworth will replace Bill Shorten as NDIS Minister on Monday, as part of a limited cabinet reshuffle following Shorten’s retirement.
In other moves, Anne Aly will assist Rishworth, Katy Gallagher will be responsible for Shorten’s Government Services portfolio, which oversees services such as Centrelink, and Sport and Aged Care Minister Anika Wells has been promoted to cabinet.
Prime Minister Anthony Albenese announced the “updates” in a low-key statement on 16 January.
‘‘When Labor established the NDIS, we made a promise to people with disability, to families and to carers, not to leave you behind. We will keep that promise,” he said.
‘‘As a country, we still have a long way to go to take responsibility for ensuring that people with a disability are seen and treated equally in health, in education and in employment.
‘‘The NDIS has changed so many lives, but there is much work still to do, because the truth is, under the former government, the scheme did lose its way.”
Shorten starts his new job as vice chancellor at the University of Canberra on Monday.
