Yarning with Tim: Treaty

It is hard to put into words how significant this Treaty is.
The decision by the Victorian Government shows the voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples will finally be heard. More than that, Treaty is a major step toward self-determination and a powerful affirmation after the disappointment of the Voice To Parliament referendum.
This decision – which is a culmination of all the movements over the past 100 years – gives our community a much-needed reminder that all was not lost in that no vote. It will energise and inspire us to continue on the path towards reconciliation.
As a Victorian, I am especially proud. I hope when other governments see the benefits Treaty brings for all Australians they will reconsider their objections and give Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples the respect – and the voice – they deserve.
