Melba welcomes NDIA price limit backflip
October 4, 2024
The National Disability Insurance Agency has reversed its earlier decision regarding funding for complex behaviour supports, a move that Melba, as a trusted and experienced provider of positive behaviour supports (PBS), wholeheartedly welcomes.
As of 1 October, providers are once again able to claim the same price limit for intensive and complex behaviour supports as for high-intensity supports. This change follows significant concerns from participants, families and providers, including Melba, after the initial removal of high-intensity support pricing for complex behaviours in the 2024–25 Price Limits and Pricing Arrangements.
Anneke Jurgens, Melba’s General Manager, Practice, Quality & Safeguards, said this reversal ensured people with complex behaviour support needs would continue to receive the necessary supports to maximise their quality of life and reduce the risk of harm to themselves and others.
“Melba is committed to providing high-quality supports and services to people who use behaviours of protest and welcomes this decision as a vital step towards safeguarding the well-being of participants,” she said.
“Melba is also a registered provider of individual positive behaviour support services and has a team of experienced, NDIS-registered PBS practitioners who can be engaged to work collaboratively with the person and their support team.
“Our individualised PBS services focus first and foremost on improving the quality of life for people who have behaviour support needs, building skills and enhancing their environment and supports, thereby reducing their need to use behaviours of protest.”
