also\u00a0recognise the work that still lies ahead in creating truly inclusive communities.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Matthew, a support worker at Melba, Pride Month is both a celebration and a reminder of why visibility and belonging\u00a0are so incredibly critical.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Matthew balances supporting others at work with studying towards his nursing degree.\u00a0This\u00a0Pride Month,\u00a0he&#8217;ll\u00a0also be taking time to celebrate with his partner and connect with a community that\u2019s\u00a0helped shape who he is today.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As an openly gay man, Matthew understands the importance of having spaces where people can simply be themselves.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pride month is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> important to me because t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">his month<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, the community that are all in the same boat can just come together, that have probably had people that haven\u2019t been kind to them because of who they are,\u201d Matt said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0time<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">where everyone just feels welcomed.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Matthew, Pride Month is also an opportunity for conversation and understanding.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">While awareness and acceptance have grown significantly over the years, many LGBTQIA+ Australians continue to experience discrimination in their daily lives, including at work, in education, healthcare and housing.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">That&#8217;s\u00a0why Matthew believes curiosity and education are so important.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cI think my message would be &#8211; instead of judging what other people do, why don\u2019t we all just find out a bit more about it? You are who you are, and I think\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0true for all of us.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">His perspective reflects something that sits at the heart of Melba&#8217;s values: that every person deserves to feel respected,\u00a0safe\u00a0and valued for who they are.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It&#8217;s\u00a0also one of the reasons Matthew recently joined\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.melbasupport.com.au\/about-us\/diversity-and-inclusion\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Rainbow Melba<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, Melba&#8217;s LGBTQIA+ and allies working group.\u00a0The group helps\u00a0create a safe and inclusive space where everyone can express their true selves without fear of discrimination.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For Matthew, having a dedicated group like Rainbow Melba has been an\u00a0empowering\u00a0experience.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cIt\u2019s great because this is the first time I\u2019ve worked for a company that has a group like this.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Now,\u00a0he&#8217;s\u00a0helping spread the word and encouraging others to get involved.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At its core, his message is a simple
