According to Tess, Fiona and Jacqui – Tuesday is the best day of the week!
Why’s that? That’s the usual day they come together for their regular catch up, located at the scenic location called The Briars, Mount Martha, as they actively participate in a Melba day support program.
They are supported by Amelia and Ally, and there isn’t a typical order of activities each Tuesday.
But what is typical is that there loads of fun to be had and a lot of creativity to be expressed. What they do each Tuesday is up to Tess, Fiona and Jacqui and what they feel like doing on the day.
The day could include a mix of activities such as socialising over a cuppa, chair Yoga, walking, singing, dancing to classic songs, as well as arts and craft.
One of the creative projects they’re all working on now is creating an illustration book called Lily Fits In. It usually starts with a picture drawn by Ally, then that simple pencil drawing is discussed as a group.
This is when the imagination of the whole group really comes alive! While they colour in the drawing, they start talking about what characters in the picture can be doing. This is where they then decide what the words should be. And voila! That’s how they have created their evolving story page-by-page to the point where it’s nearly finished storybook.
As co-authors, they decided that the moral of the story would be: You don’t need to change yourself to fit in. A motto that is near and dear to all their hearts!
It has been a true labour of love, created by great conversations and incredible imaginations; and shaped by what inspires the group from favourite movies, shows and books from popular culture.
The group now plans to print their collaborative storybook. They also have plans to hold an event to celebrate its launch. Stay tuned for more about the upcoming book launch.
