It’s hard to believe we are already in February. I’m relieved that daily COVID cases have been declining across Victoria. We also have a sufficient supply of rapid antigen tests and plenty of PPE.
Despite staffing shortages across the disability sector, we have managed to keep Melba’s respite services, in-home supports, day services and homes operating. It is a fantastic outcome, and I thank all staff for their extra work to ensure that people supported are safe and well and that we remained open.
Thanks to everyone who attended our COVID-19 vaccination clinics to receive booster shots. If you are due for booster vaccination, please book one to increase your protection against COVID-19. You can find your nearest vaccination site and walk-in or book now. More information is at: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/vaccine
We will continue to support people to get vaccinations and boosters. If you need help arranging an appointment, please contact your house outcomes lead/supervisor, manager or regional general manager.
Australian of the Year
Congrats to the new Australian of the Year, Dylan Alcott. Dylan used his award acceptance speech to call for funding for the NDIS and listen to people with disability. We are looking forward to Dylan continuing to use his voice and platform to advocate for the rights of people with disability.
Now that the situation has stabilised, I’ll go back to writing to you fortnightly, unless something urgent arises.
Take care and stay well
