A MESSAGE FROM MELBA’S CEO and coo RE COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) – UPDATE 6 NOVEMBER 2020

There is a pandemic hotline to respond to questions and queries from our Melba community. The hotline number is 1300 MYMELBA (1300 696352). For all other community members, if needed please contact the DHHS Coronavirus 24-hour Hotline number: 1800 675 398.

Dear friends,

It’s great that we are now starting to see and feel the restrictions easing across the state as we all move towards a ‘united Victoria’. In terms of what this means for Melba, we have more freedom to support people to get out and about in the community, including being able to increase individual supports, which is excellent news! We are in the process of contacting families to discuss these supports.

There are still a number of restrictions imposed by the Chief Health Officer which relate to centre-based disability supports and visitors to disability accommodation services (including STAA/respite, group homes and other Supported Independent Living (SIL) arrangements). These apply to both metropolitan and regional Victoria (refer to our website for more information).

We will continue to talk with you about our centre-based disability supports; what will work for you now and into the future, though we are yet to hear of a timeframe for the return of centre-based supports.

For those who live in a group home or other SIL arrangements, visits are still restricted. Please call ahead before all visits.

Importantly, we continue to follow our comprehensive protocols to ensure the health and wellbeing of the Melba community. Our practices and procedures reflect public health directions and relevant COVID-19-safe rules with which we are very familiar and which will be an important part of our collective ‘COVID Normal’.

We expect Premier Andrews will announce further changes this coming weekend, and I hope to write to you again next week with more good news. Stay tuned!
